Rare photograph taken by John Reekie for Alexander Gardner, published by Anthony of Union Soldiers, Confederate Parolees and freed Contrabands around April 14 1865 five days after the Surrender of Richmond VA. Photo is at the Equestrian Statue of Washington and standing in front of it are a group of Senior Union Officers, possibly General Peck? There is a tall man in a stove pipe hat but I cannot confirm this to be Lincoln and could not find any photos of him taken at this location on his visit. But a possibity. Very rare photograph. Will be accompanied by a published alternative view of the proceedings from the Civil War Monitor magazine.
