Chambersburg Pa bm.  Published Officer,  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Entered the Civil War as a Private in the 1st New York Volunteer Cavalry. Participated in cavalry battles of Pohick Station, the Peninsular Campaign, the Antietam Campaign and in the Shenandoah Valley. By April 1863 his service as such that he had promoted from Private to 1st Lieutenant. At this rank he commanded troops in the Gettysburg Campaign. In 1864 he was promoted to Major, then Colonel and commander of the 21st Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. While commanding this regiment, he fought in the Battle of Spotsylvania, the siege of Petersburg and in the last Campaign of Appomattox. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services". Less than a two years after the end of the war, he died at age 25 of cholera.*
